BMW, the globally renowned German auto maker, announced the recall of over 2.35 lakhs of its Mini variants worldwide due to the risk of fire outbreak. The possible reason for the fire outbreak risk is defective water pumps installed in the car. The Mini variants which the company is planning to recall are the ones manufactured between 2006 and 2011.

The electric water pump is directed towards keeping the turbocharger cool and even a minor defect in the water pump would result in a breakdown in the electronic circuit board. The circuit board can get overheated due to which the car may catch fire. The company has so far, not received any report of an accident occurred due to this faulty water pumps but as a precautionary measure the pumps will be replaced free of charge.
