As according to industry sources, the much anticipated Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) of Nissan named Terrano is all set to unveil in August 2013. The car is elated to be showcased on 20th of August in an event organised by the auto maker. Nissan Terrano had been in the news recently for reasons building up to the launch with test mules spotted in Chennai along with Nissan revealing sketches of the car, which bears a resemblance to its sibling Renault Duster. This car will be second SUV that the company is launching in India with previous one being the X-Trail.
Nissan's Terrano is expected to share the same 1.5-litre K9K engine as provided in Renault Duster. As due to the technical collaboration of Nissan and Renault (which has now been discontinued), this SUV of Nissan is built on same platform of Renault Duster. However, Nissan was confident that its car will be able to build its own market. The company's Chief Executive Officer, Kenichiro Yomura had said “You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.”
The exterior styling of Nissan Terrano boasts of a more muscle look as compared to its donor car. The model will be seen with large bumpers and revised headlights apart from a new front grille that will bear the Nissan badge. It is said that Terrano will be available in four variants namely XL, XL(O), XV and XV Premium. In addition, the car is anticipated to feature an automatic transmission option as seen on Sunny and Micra. Reports also say the entry level compact SUV will be price around Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom) for its base model.
As seen by Industry experts, the car might be launched during the festive season as the demand increases during this time. Nissan Terrano will face a stiff competition from the likes of already established models like Ford EcoSport and its own sibling Renault Duster. As Terrano will be equipped with slight more features than Duster, it is widely anticipated that it may cost more than Renault's SUV. Presently, the Duster is available in the price range of Rs. 7.99 lakh till Rs. 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom price Delhi).
