      Nissan eyes three-fold increase in sales by next year

      The Indian unit of the leading Japanese car maker Nissan is on an aggressive expansion drive in the Indian auto market. Along with expanding its dealership network in the country, the company is aiming to register a threefold increase in its sales in the calendar year 2011. The total sales of the company in the Indian market stood at 13,000 units in year 2010.

      Speaking to the reporters in Kolkata, Nissan India Managing Director Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "Nissan India sold 13,000 cars in 2010. In 2011, we are aiming to sell 40,000 cars.” He was speaking at the occasion of launching of the launch of new midsize sedan Nissan Sunny in Kolkata.

      Out of the total planned investment of Rs 4,500 crore by year 2015; the company has already invested about Rs 2,800 crore in the expansion of its operations in the Indian market.

      Nisan plans to add five new car models in its India portfolio by year 2015 which will comprise of an all new MUV (multi utility vehicle) and other four models details of which are yet to be disclosed by the company. Moreover, the firm aims to take the total number of its dealership to 100 from 80 by next year.

      Meanwhile, the recently launched Nissan Sunny model is receiving an overwhelming response in the Indian market. The car is fighting for the space with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti SX4 and Volkswagen Vento, etc.
