Peugeot launched the all-new 508 sedan back in 2011 as a replacement for the 407 as well as the 607. The sedan is now in dire need of a replacement. A test mule of the same model was spotted for the first time on the public roads.

The current generation 508 is based on PSA’s PF3 platform. However, the new generation of the family sedan will employ the new EMP2 architecture. Similar to Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform, the EMP2 platform will help the new 508 become affordable and easier to manufacture. The D-segment sedan is wearing a lot of camouflage right now. However, the production body now seems to have a sleeker design with more modern lines and curves. The sloping roofline, seemingly inspired by the Peugeot Exalt Concept from 2014, will give the 508 a sportier stance. The headlamps under the cladding seem to carry that familiar Peugeot design with DRLs. At the rear, there are dual exhaust tips and the signature ‘tiger-claw’ tail lamps.

We can see a tow anchor at the back as well, necessary for the European ‘caravan lifestyle’. There is speculation that the new 508 will sport a lift-back tail gate, which will make this family sedan even more practical. No details of the interior are available yet, but the new cabin may come with the second iteration of i-Cockpit, similar to the updated 5008 with more space and comfort than the outgoing car.

As far as powertrain is concerned, the engine and transmission options will be similar to the one offered in the new 308 apart from an alternative plug-in hybrid variant. Once revealed, the new 508 will continue to face competition from the likes of VW Passat, Skoda Superb, Ford Mondeo, and the Opel Insignia. According to speculation, there won’t be an equivalent
