      New M&M facility to be set-up in Tamil Nadu by this year end

      Utility vehicle giant Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to establish a new car manufacturing facility at Cheyyar near Chennai. The new plant will be set-up along with an advanced car testing facility. The company has entered into an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government for this upcoming facility in the starting of this year.

      The new plant will be set-up at a land of 400 acres at Cheyyar with an investment of Rs 1,800 crore. This will be company’s second manufacturing facility in India after Chakan Facility in Maharashtra. In addition to this, a testing facility will be set-up over an area of 150 acres.

      In a statement given on Wednesday, Pawan Goenka, Mahindra and Mahindra, Automotive and Farm Equipment sector President, "It is 400 acres land. In the first phase we will set up a proving ground - a testing facility on 150 acres, which will require minimal investments of Rs 100-Rs 150 crore."

      While informing about the company’s plans, Mr. Goenka said that the company has committed investments of Rs 1,800 crore spread over seven years. Right now the focus is on adding to its Chakan plant. After that M&M will focus on Cheyyar plant.
