Production of the new AMG GT R and GT Roadsters is in full swing at Mercedes-Benz’s Sindelfingen plant in Germany. Sources report that the brand will put together close to 2,000 units of the GT R.

Each of these cars are crafted entirely by hand by a few expert engineers. And since it is a complex design, it takes ten of these specialised employees to work in close association with each other to mate the drivetrain to the body.

Mercedes-AMG will equip the new GT R with the brand’s 4.0-litre biturbo motor which is capable of making 585bhp and 700Nm of torque. An entry-level GT Roadster with a power output of 476bhp will also be offered, and can hit 0-100kmph in just 4sec. Michael Bauer, plant manager at Sindelfingen, said, "The cooperation with Affalterbach works very well. We, at Sindelfingen are proving once again that we can not only handle large-scale, but also small-scale production – a top performance from the team."

Reports state that the new AMG GT R and GT Roadster may be introduced in June this year.
