Mercedes Benz is all set to launch its new crossover by the name of GLA, which will, reportedly, be launched in the market by mid-2013. According to Mercedes, Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform will be used to develop the GLA. Presently, the German manufacturer's A and B Class cars are presently being developed on this platform.

Loaded with a 2.0 L, four cylinder engine with direct injection technology, the GLA will generate power output of 208 hp. The company will also provide an option of All Wheel Drive to the customers. As far as dimensions are concerned, the new car will be 4439 mm in length, 1800 mm in width and 1498 mm in height. The dimensions of the GLA are quite close to that of the BMW X1, its chief competitor in the market. However, the wheelbase of the car is kept around 2692 mm, lesser than that of the BMW X1. In order to develop the exteriors of the car, the company has taken inspiration from its A-Class and B-Class models.

As far as the launch of GLA in India is concerned, the company is planning Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly. Although, BMW X1 has a decent market share in India, it is expected that the 2013 Mercedes Benz GLA Crossover will establish a strong foothold in the country and give tough competition to it.

The BMW X1 is equipped with a 4 cylinder, 1995 cc displacement engine, which is capable of generating power of 150 hp at 6400 rpm and torque of 200 Nm at 3600 rpm. It takes 10.4 seconds to attain 100 kmph speed mark from stand still and can reach top speed of 200 kmph quite easily.
