One of country’s leading luxury car makers Mercedes Benz is planning to enter into the car leasing business following the launch of its financial services arm in the Indian market. The company said in a statement on Friday that it will start offering cars on lease basis to the Indian customers soon after its financial services arm start operating in the country.

Speaking to the reporters in Chennai, Mercedes Benz India Managing Director, Peter Honegg said, "We are studying the market. We will be making a formal announcement in the next few weeks." Mr. Honegg added that the concept of car leasing is well received in the developed nations like US and UK. He added, "We will be targeting the publicly listed companies once it is launched."

Meanwhile, the firm has raised its growth projections in the Indian market in current year and is planning to sell over 7,000 units in the current year as compared to 5,600 units sold last year. The company aims to double the share of diesel variants in its sales to 80 percent from existing share of 40 percent.

The financial arm of Mercedes Benz India – Mercedes Benz Financial Services – will soon debut in the Indian market. Mercedes Benz is currently the second largest luxury car maker in the Indian market, following BMW at the top spot.
