Maruti Suzuki stands out as the largest exporter of passenger cars in India

Maruti Suzuki has emerged as the largest exporter of passenger cars in India in first half of 2017. As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has witnessed a 6 per cent growth in exports in April-September this year with 57,300 units of passenger cars exported as against 54,008 units in the same period in 2016. The second and third position in terms of export volumes are held by Volkswagen and General Motors respectively. Hyundai Motors which held the top position in the last few years has slipped to fourth position this year.

Volkswagen India has emerged as the second largest exporter of passenger cars as the company has exported 50,410 units as against 43,114 units shipped in the same period last year, thereby reporting a growth of 16.92 per cent. Although General Motors has stopped selling cars in India due to poor sales in last few years, the company has emerged as the third largest exporter of passenger cars in India. General Motors has witnessed a strong 47.72 per cent growth in sales with 45,222 units exported in first half of 2017 as against the same period last year. Nissan India which was the third largest exporter last year has witnessed a drop of 37.11 percent from 49,091 units exported last year to 30,872 units exported this year. Nissan has slipped to the sixth position this year.

Hyundai Motors India which has been the largest car exporter since the last few years has dropped to the fourth position behind Volkswagen and General Motors in the first half of this fiscal year. The company has report drop a of 29.25 per cent with 44,585 units exported as against 63,014 units shipped in the same period last year. The fifth position is claimed by Ford India which has shipped 42,412 units in the first half of 2017 as against 31,467 units in the same period last fiscal, thereby witnessing a growth of 34.78 per cent.
