Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce its first ever Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) in India. The company has scheduled the launch of this seven seater MPV on 11th April. Unveiled at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo, the car gained huge appreciation from the audience and since then, it has been one of the most anticipated models of the country.

The car maker will be disclosing the price of this MPV once the Union Budget 2012-13 is passed on March 16. Post budget, the company will announce the number of petrol and diesel variants as it is anticipated that additional excise duty will be imposed on diesel vehicles. Every month, the company plans to sell 5,000 units of Ertiga in India. Launch of this MPV is considered crucial for the Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the high-end multi-purpose vehicle segment.

Owing to the limited competition in this segment, Ertiga will fetch more profit for the company. Earlier, the car maker had decided to launch this car in three petrol and diesel variants. This first MPV of the company will carry K-14 VVT 1.4 litre petrol engine, which will deliver fuel economy of 10 to 12 kmpl. According to the car maker, the 1.3 litre DDiS Super Turbo engine loaded in the diesel variant will offer mileage of 20.77 kmpl. As per reports, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will be manufactured in the Gurgaon facility of the company. Entering the market, the MPV is expected to lock horns with Tata Aria, Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova.
