      Maruti Suzuki announces recall for 33,098 units of Alto 800 and Alto K10 in India

      Country's largest automaker has identified issues with the `right hand door latch assembly’ in about 33,098 units of top selling Alto 800 and Alto K10 trims in India. As per reports, the list includes about 19,780 units of Alto 800 and 13,318 units of Alto K10 that have been manufactured between 8th December 2014 and 18th February 2015. The workshop technicians located dealerships shall inspect and carry out necessary replacement at no additional cost to the vehicle owner. Owners of the affected vehicles shall be contacted by Maruti Suzuki dealers.

      The problem has been identified during internal checks that were conducted by the company and a proactive action has been initiated in the interest of customers. Based on customer's perspective there is no reason to worry in case the right hand side front and rear doors have been completely latched. But if, the door is half latched it is possible that it may open if pressure has been applied from the inside. Though, this may be a rare condition, the company has decided to undertake the replacement initiative to replace the door latch assembly in view of customer safety.

      The company has also provided a tool on its official site www.marutisuzuki.com to enable owners to ascertain if their vehicle has been features in the list of affected ones. Users of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Alto K10 who purchased their cars on or after 8th December 2014 can indeed use the tool for immediate information. The company has requested customer to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also present in the vehicle invoice / registration documents. Apart from this, customers can also visit the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to ascertain if their vehicle features among the affected vehicle list.
