The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki registered a record dip in its sales in the month of July 2011. The company managed to sell a total of 75,300 units of its cars in the county during this month, registering a slump of 25.3 percent as against units sold a year ago period. As per the industry reports, this was the biggest drop ever in the company’s sales in its operations of more than 27 years.

The company said that besides getting affected by the ongoing slowdown in the Indian automobile industry, the company’s sales also fell due to a planned shift in production of its entry-level sedan Swift Dzire. The production of Dzire sedans had recently shifted to the one company’s Gurgaon plant from Manesar.

Moreover, the company has also stopped the production of older version of its popular premium hatchback Maruti Swift as the newer version of the car is scheduled to be launched in this month. This has made the sales of older Swift dipping 97 percent over the units sold in previous year.

Most of company’s segment leading portfolio models including small cars like Alto, A-star, and sedans like Swift Dzire and SX4, posted lower sales as compared to their respective sales during the same month previous year.

Earlier In June, the company’s sales witnessed a massive dip due to a 11 day long worker’s strike at its Manesar plant. The company had lost the production of 12,600 units of its cars due to this strike.
