Come mid 2015 and Mahindra will launch the automatic variant of XUV 500 SUV. A six-speed automatic transmission will be equipped in the SUV which the company will source from SsangYong which is a part of the Mahindra group. The newly developed six-speed transmission from SsangYong will also be embedded in a yet to be launched compact SUV from SsangYong which could be rolled out prior to XUV 500 AT.
Coming back to Mahindra, at present Scorpio is the only vehicle in the Mahindra clan that comes with an automatic transmission. During the 12th Auto Expo held in Greater Noida, Mahindra displayed Quanto with a five speed AMT gearbox, which has left auto aficionados speculating of an AT version Quanto.
Suddenly the focus has shifted to compact SUVs and MPVs from hatchbacks in domestic market in the last couple of years. Mahindra offers several SUVs and MPVs in India but it is yet to taste success in the compact SUV segment. The company had high expectations from Quanto but it could not attain as much success as the company had thought of.
Rumour has it that the company is planning to launch two new compact SUVs codenamed S101 and S102. The two compact SUVs will be conceived on a new platform and could be priced between the price range of Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh. Apart from these, Mahindra is also developing a range of new MPVs which will boasts of a new design language.
