Mahindra & Mahindra that recently launched the new-generation Scorpio SUV. is now gearing up to launch a series of new vehicles in the country in next 2 years. The company will introduce two new compact SUVs next year. Based on the all-new platforms, the S101 Micro SUV and the U301 Compact SUV are the two new vehicles to enter sub-4 metre compact SUV category.
Mahindra and Ssangyong are working on an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is likely to power the upcoming U301 and S101. The oil burner is expected to be the 1.5-litre diesel engine that does its duty in the Quanto. Both vehicles have been spotted several times during their test rounds on Indian roads. The U301 compact SUV is expected to replace the ageing Bolero SUV or might be put on sale along side the current model that is still topping the sales charts. It is based on the hydroformed ladder frame chassis. This SUV will offer ruggedness and go-anywhere character to its buyers. Interestingly, the U301 would be offered in multiple sizes including a sub-4 metre SUV and a seven-seater MPV version.
Talking about the Mahindra S101 SUV, the sub-compact SUV will be offered in 3+3 seating arrangement. The front row seat is bench type, while the gear shifter is placed on the dashboard to offer more space. A five-speed manual transmission and front wheel drive layout will come as standard features. It is also likely to get AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox as an option. We expect the S101 micro SUV to go on sale in the second quarter of 2015, while the next Bolero could hit the market by the festive season.
