Mahindra & Mahindra is rumoured to have been working on a facelift version of its compact SUV Quanto. The auto maker also displayed an AMT variant of Quanto sporting several tweaks at the 2014 Auto Exposition held in Greater Noida in the month of February earlier this year. This hints at the possibility of new Quanto being offered in AMT variant. The sub-four meter SUV is expected to be launched in India next year.
The Quanto’s upgraded version is likely to get a comprehensive facelift and is being worked upon under the codename U215. Mahindra plans to position new Quanto between the under development compact SUV codenamed S101 and Mahindra Bolero facelift. The AMT variant is expected to be priced and positioned on top of the line of the SUV’s current range. There is yet not much information on the cosmetic and mechanical tweaks expected to be seen in the facelifted version of Quanto. Though we do not expect any major change in the overall design of the SUV and same goes for the engine set up.
Mahindra had high expectations from the compact SUV that was introduced in domestic market few years ago, however to its disappointment, Quanto could not deliver the desired results and proved to be a dud seller. The current model of SUV houses a 1.5 litre, three cylinder turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power output of 100bhp. A five-speed manual transmission is mated to the engine that transmits power. The compact SUV segment is currently being ruled by Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster primarily hence these two will be the prime competitors of the new Quanto.
