South Korean car maker Kia Motors is ready to enter the Indian market soon. The company plans to introduce hatchbacks, sedans and compact cars in the country to have diversified portfolio. Kia Motors is partly owned by Hyundai Motors which already has a strong presence in the Indian market.

According to sources close to the development, Kia Motors will build a manufacturing facility in India to launch competitively priced car models in the country. The move comes after the company’s plans to shift its focus from the European market to the booming Asian market where India remains one of the most promising lands.

Kia has some very popular models in its product portfolio especially in the small car segment. It is expected that the company will launch Picanto and Proceed initially in India and will later on introduce its popular sedan models like Rio and Forte.

Kia Motors, a subsidiary of Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, is the second largest auto manufacturer in South Korea and was founded in 1944. The company produces more than 1.4 million vehicles per annum in 14 manufacturing operations and assembly across eight countries and sells its models in more than 165 countries across the globe. It is expected in India by December 2010.
