      Honda Motor company donates Honda City CNG to BPPT for research purpose

      PT Honda Prospect Motors (HPM) has donated a compressed natural gas (CNG) version of its Honda City compact sedan to the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) in order to help the agency in proceeding with its research on alternative fuel. Unggul Priyanto, BPPT head has stated that the fresh lot of donation would help the institute in research of alternative fuel. Speaking more on the occassion Unggul said, “[Fossil Fuel] remains the easiest source of energy to be accessed by Indonesians and as a result, our fuel consumption is still very high. The [car] donated by Honda will help our research on developing alternative options to fuel.”

      Research and Technology, and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir has stated that governmnet shall support the research activity particularly on the potential of compressed gas a mainstream fuel source. Nasir has also added that the company may also provide more about 40 vehicles incluing hybrid and electric vehicles for research purpose.

      The CNG trim of Honda City has been designed for compatibility with CNG as well as petrol and has two seperate fuel tanks. The 42 liter CNG tank in the vehicle has been designed to withstand heat owing to the use of safety devices like shut-off valve, temperature sensors and pressure outlet. Moreover, the CNG also comes with smell that alerts the driver to detect a leak. Speaking more on the occassion, PT HPM president director Tomoki Uchida said, “We hope that researching the Honda City CNG will bring large benefits and create solutions regarding alternative fuels for a better environment.”
