      Honda India records over 205 per cent growth in Jan 2013

      Honda Cars India Limited has come up with some brilliant sales for the month of January 2013 with figures standing at 5451 units, marking a growth of 205.5 per cent. During the corresponding period of 2012, the car maker recorded sales of just 1784 units, owing to the unavailability of raw materials and flood in Thailand, which affected its production capacity.

      Following a decent start, the auto maker has further aggressive plans for the Indian market. Reportedly, the launch of a reworked version of CR-V utility vehicle and Amaze diesel sedan is on the cards of Honda Cars India. Besides this monthly sales report, the auto maker also registered a growth of 65 per cent in its cumulative sales figures with 56,929 units, being sold during the April 2012-January 2013 tenure, under the review of year-ago period. Coming to the model wise sales figures, Brio was able to find 2336 new buyers, whereas Jazz got 61 new drivers. The demand for City, Civic, Accord and CR-V stood at 2898, 53, 73 and 30 units, respectively.

      Banking on the overwhelming domestic sales, Honda Cars India will now embark on other plans of 2013. According to sources, the launch of facelift CR-V is scheduled for February 12, 2013, which will however not be introduced with a diesel engine. The model is expected to compete against the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, among others.

      Later this year, the auto maker will then come up with another ace, Amaze sedan. The model is expected to hit the Indian market in the first half of 2013, featuring the company’s first diesel engine in the Indian market. Expected to be powered by a 1.5 litre engine, Amaze is expected to be produced at the car maker’s Rajasthan unit. Post launch, the model will deliver a stiff competition to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Tata Indigo and Mahindra Verito, among others.
