Sales report for the month of June shows infinitesimal difference between the collective sales of auto majors Mahindra & Mahindra and Honda Cars India Ltd. In the month of June, home grown auto maker, M&M sold a total of 16,780 units trailed by Japanese auto cos HCIL that delivered 16,316 units in the same month. Running behind marginally by 464 units from M&M, Honda is likely to cover up the petite void with its upcoming MPV Mobilio. Salted to launch in the last week of July, Mobilio MPV has it all to woo customers in India. Pre launch bookings for the vehicle will begin soon that will give us a sneak peek into the probable sales number of the vehicle.

Currently, Honda’s two sedans in its stable-new City and Amaze CS, are driving sales of HCIL. The model wise break up for Honda cars show that highest numbers of deliveries were done for new City sedan at 7723 units followed by Amaze at7075 units. Brio sales also picked up marginally at 1438 units, CR-V continued its low sales trend at 80 units. On the export front, the company shipped 739 units to overseas markets from India.

Current trend in domestic market clearly indicates acceptance for new vehicles by the customers. Honda Mobilio has every reason for being a viable option in the MPV segment-a seven seater spacious MPV with roomier third row, a powerful engine expected to return segment best mileage, contemporary styling & appealing looks, being a Honda offering we expect the MPV to be well embedded with equipments. An affordable pricing will do the trick in making the MPV a hit in India.

M&M on the other hand witnessed 3 per cent fall in passenger sales at 16,780 units juxtaposed to 17,232 units sold in the same time in 2013. M&M has not slated launch of any new model in this year. However, Scorpio facelift is under development and is expected to come out around the festive season. This could act as a trump card for the popular UV maker in terms of sales in domestic market. In 2015, M&M will roll out a new compact SUV which is being built under the codename S101. Bolero facelift is also underway and is likely to be spawned by next year. Hence the competition between the two auto makers is going to be fierce for the number third spot.
