German auto giant, Volkswagen has released first official images of 2015 Passat premium saloon. The public display of updated Passat will be done later this year in October at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Alterations have been done to the dimensions of the saloon which now measures 2 mm shorter, 14 mm lower, 12 mm wider and offers 79 mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing version. To achieve a longer wheelbase the auto maker has moved front wheels forward by 29 mm and rear wheels backwards by 17 mm. Trunk capacity has been enhanced by 21 litres to 586 litres.
Weighing up to 85 kg lighter than its previous version, the saloon is equipped with a 1.4 litre TSI engine producing two states of tune-125 PS and150 PS. A high displacement 1.8 litre TSI engine engendering 180 PS of top power will also be put on offer. Besides this, a 2.0 litre TSI engine offering varied power output of 220 PS and 280 PS will also be included in the new Passat range.
Diesel trims of 2015 Passat will be packed with a 1.6 litre TDI powertrain outputting three states of tune-150 PS, 190 PS and 240 PS. Lighter by 85 kg than its predecessor and inclusion of frugal engines in its line-up the new Passat range promises to deliver improved fuel efficiency by 20 per cent. A 211 PS plug-in hybrid trim will also be put on offing that will be capable of returning 966 km of combined range and 50 km on electric power.
Volkswagen-Spec model of the saloon will come embedded with features like LED head lights and tail lamps, inside the cabin a digital instrument cluster borrowed from Audi TT will be seen. The feature rich Europe bound 2015 Passat will come loaded with equipments like head-up display, trailer assist, traffic jam assist, side assist with rear traffic alert, city emergency braking and park assist among others.
