Honda Activa, a trailblazer in gearless scooters in India has reclaimed top slot in two wheeler segment in domestic market in month of July. Emerging winner in two wheel segment last month with highest sales of 1,91,883 units, Activa witnessed growth of 64 per cent on year on year basis.
Honda Activa range includes two 110 cc variants and a 125cc variant that has been placed at top of the range. Honda Eco technology turned out to be benefiting for all the scooters.
Scooter segment has thrived gradually in the past couple of years as new age scooters are technologically more advanced, frugal in terms of mileage and possess a modish semblance. Officials at Honda claim that the company has acted as a pathfinder in the evolution of new age scooters and they are confident that Honda will be able to maintain its position in coming time also.
In FY 2013-2014, scooters accounted for almost 25 per cent of the Indian two wheeler sales and in current fiscal that started on April 1, 2014, the tally has already surpassed this figure at 27 per cent until now. According to data collected in first quarter of this financial year scooter segment witnessed growth of 23 per cent.
Since the demand for Honda’s gearless scooters is high in India, hence the company is pondering to come up with the world’s largest scooter manufacturing unit. The manufacturing unit will apparently be located in Gujarat. Presently, the company has three manufacturing facilities in India located in Greater Noida (UP), Tapukara (Rajasthan) and Narasapura (Karnataka).
