Primarily, the airbags manufactured by Japan's Takata Corp have been identified to be faulty in nature. The propellant used in the device has reportedly been the cause for airbag ruptures resulting shrapnels being strewn across. Cases have been reported at different locations wherein two fatal incidents have been caused due to the problem. A senior official from Honda said, “We are awaiting confirmation from the global headquarters over the issue of recall and are yet to determine the cars impacted by the recall. It's part of the global exercise and the number of cars that could be impacted would be determined on the basis of information coming from Japan.”

Takata Corp has also been supplying the safety equipment to other leading manufacturers like Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Ford and BMW. These companies have reportedly not sold the affected variants in India, but still, are yet to check with their official records to eliminate the possibility.
