The current financial year shall witness a new 800cc bike in India from Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI). A senior company official confirmed in New Delhi that the company shall unveil its new 800cc model in India by March 2009.
"When we introduced motorcycles in India, we started with smaller engine sizes to cater to the masses. We have been exploring launching bigger motorcycles and this year an 800cc bike will be launched for the Indian market," said HSMI President and Chief S. Ayoma. "The 800cc bike will be imported from the parent company. He also said that the new 800cc bike would be one of the two models planned for the launch of the year. The company shall launch another bike or a scooter as the second model in the year.
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India is a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co. that made its debut in India with the launch of its Active scooter in 2000. Earlier it had marked its presence in India through joint ventures with Hero Honda, Honda Siel Cars, and Kinetic Honda Company.
