      Auto Technology Giant Delphi in India

      The auto technology supplier, Delphi, is expanding its business in India. It shall soon be setting up a manufacturing unit in Chennai to produce electronic and safety management system for the car models for its customers including Tata Nano. It shall be Rs 300 crore plant for which the Tamil Nadu government has approved the land and given the sanction to set up as a Greenfield project at Oragadam. However, the complete project is still in work-in-progress stage.

      According to the Auto Component Association of India, the auto component sector is set to grow at CAGR of 15 percent till the year 2012. The current hardware unit shall cater to the domestic demands of booming auto car industry in India. In the first phase of it production, the unit shall manufacture instrument clusters. Later on, it shall produce other safety components such as air bags, seat belts, immobilisers and body-computers that enable the driver to operate range of applications in the car such as wiper, headlamps and power windows.

      Delphi India has been present in the country since 1995. Its technical centre offers product and back office support to Delphi globally. It currently has 600 employees and plans to add another 250 engineers by 2010.
