      GM India eyes 8-10 % sales growth in calendar year 2012

      The Indian subsidiary of the US based leading car maker General Motors is looking forward to register a sale growth of 8 to 10 percent in the calendar year 2012. The company has recently rolled out new BS-IV compatible version of the popular Multi Utility Vehicle – Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 – Indian market.

      Speaking in the occasion of the launch of New Tavera Neo 3 BS-IV in Kolkata, Mr. Lowell C. Paddock, GM India President and Managing Director, said, "We are expecting an 8-10 per cent growth in sales in India this year." While speaking on the company’s performance in the Indian market so far, he said, "A total of 1.5 lakh Tavera models were sold in India since 2006, and in the last year we sold 21,000 Tavera, 45,000 Beat and 22,000 models of Spark."

      So far, the company has sold a total of over 2.25 lakh units of its India portfolio vehicles in the Indian auto market with a total investment of about USD 1 billion, since its inception in the country. The total manufacturing capacity at the company Talegaon and Halol based manufacturing facility is about 4 lakh, and the firm has no plans of enhancing this capacity in the near future.
