General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL), the country's sixth largest passenger car manufacturer, is all set to launch its Chevrolet Sail sedan in the domestic auto market on February 1, 2013. The arrival of new sedan comes exactly after three months, when the American auto major introduced its Chevy Sail U-VA premium hatchback in India last November 2012. General Motors India is expected to launch its Sail sedan with price tags between Rs. 5 and 7 lakhs in the domestic car passenger market.
The soon-to-be launched Chevy Sail model will be pitched in an intense battle the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Toyota Etios, Tata Manza Club Class and Mahindra Verito amongst others, upon its launch in Indian auto market. From the initial spy shots and preview on Chevrolet's website, the Sail sedan looks sleek, modern, spacious and practical. At present, Swift DZire entry-level sedan is the undisputed champion of the segment and Chevy Sail has a mountain to climb, in order to lure Indian buyers away from the Maruti Suzuki model.
Coming to under-the-hood specifications of Chevrolet Sail, the sedan will be introduced in both petrol and diesel options in the domestic car market. The petrol model will come fitted with a 1.2 litre, 1,199 cc, 4-cylinder SMARTECH motor, capable of churning out a peak power and torque output equations close to 85 bhp and 115 Nm, respectively. The Chevy Sail diesel sedan will come assimilated with a 1.3 litre, 1,248 cc, 4-cylinder, SMARTECH diesel engine, which belts out a peak power output closed to 77 bhp and a maximum torque of 205 Nm.
