About Chevrolet Sail

Summary

Chevrolet Sail has 8 versions available in India from which 4 are petrol and 4 are diesel cars. Chevrolet Sail comes in 4 colours, namely, Caviar Black, Sandrift Grey, Summit White, Velvet Red.

The Chevrolet Sail was launched in 2013 as a replacement for the Aveo in India. And it received a mid-life facelift in 2014. The facelifted model looks almost similar to its predecessor, despite receiving some updates such as modified headlamp, new alloy wheels, chromed fog lamp, rear and boot lip with a chromed strip etc. On the inside, it received a new black and beige dashboard, chrome surrounded gear knob and AC vents, 2-DIN audio system and few more features.  However, the engines remain unchanged – i.e. a 84.8bhp, 1.2-litre petrol and a 76.9bhp, 1.3-litre diesel. Mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it delivers an impressive fuel economy.

The Sail sedan is one of the most fuel efficient Chevrolet cars in India. The petrol variant returns an impressive fuel economy of 18kmpl, while the diesel version offers 22kmpl.

The interior of the car gets a new black and beige dashboard, chrome surrounded gear knob and AC vents, 2-DIN audio system and new leather-wrapped steering with black finishing. Most Chevroletcar models are known for their interior comfort and features, so as the Sail.

The exterior updates include modified headlamp, new alloy wheels, chromed fog lamp, rear and boot lip with a chromed strip and revised tail lamp.

The facelifted model shares its engines with the old model – i.e. the 1.2 petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel engines. The 1.3-litre, SMARTECH diesel motor develops power of 76.9bhp 205Nm of torque, while the 1.2-litre, SMARTECH petrol unit is good for 84.8bhp and 113Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel powertrain is peppy and frugal. It’s easy to drive in city. The ride is very composed, thanks to agile suspension with linear dampers.

The Cruze, which is a segment leader in the D segment, is the only car which is doing decent numbers. However, the low may not be there for long as the company has some ambitious plans for India. They recently showcased their compact SUV concept, Adra, at the 12th Auto Expo in Delhi and it received great response. Apart from the Adra, even the Beat facelift was launched at the same venue which now sports the new bow tie grille. Part of the revamping strategy, Chevrolet launched the Sail U-VA hatchback and Sail sedan to take on competition. The Sail s.... Read More
