Ford is all set to enter the growing compact sedan segment in the Indian car market. The company will launch the Figo compact sedan in the country in mid-2015. Showcased at the 2015 Delhi Motor Show as concept, the Figo sedan will rival against the likes of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Swift Dzire and Tata Zest. The company has already launched the Ka+ sedan aka Figo sedan in the Brazilian market, and the sedan has already been imported to India for testing and R&D purpose. However, the Brazilian model is over 4 metres in length, while the India-spec model will be a compact sedan and measuring sub-4 metre in length.
Ford will also launch the 2015 Figo/Ka hatchback in the country. Both models will be produced at the company’s manufacturing unit in Gujarat. Moreover, the company has also imported Brazil for R&D purpose. Other than a compact sedan and the new-gen Figo, Ford India will also launch the new generation Endeavour SUV.
The Ford Figo compact sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol version is likely to get 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit, while the oil burner is the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDCI turbo diesel unit. The company might also introduce the de-tuned version of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. Both models are based on the thoroughly modified European Fiesta platform. The sedan will be offered in both manual and automatic transmission options.
