The Innova Crysta has further deepened roots for the Japanese car manufacturer in India and has continued the Innova legacy. New age styling, ample space, powerful engine and easier maintenance has made it a strong selling MPV in the segment. The decade-old 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine has finally been replaced by an all-new 2.4-litre diesel unit producing 147bhp and 343Nm of torque. Mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the engine sends power to the rear wheels. Toyota also offers the Innova Crysta with a six-speed automatic transmission option but that comes only with the new 2.8-litre four cylinder turbo-charged diesel.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been a popular name in the MPV segment in India. The current model is available in 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine options. Both the engine options get a five-speed manual transmission as standard, while a four-speed automatic is optional on the petrol version. Affordable maintenance and impressive fuel economy figures have been the key factor behind its success in the country. Mahindra has recently launched the XUV500 in India with a set of fresh cosmetic and feature upgrades. The vehicle also gets a new top-spec W11 variant as well. Although the SUV continues to be powered by the existing 2.2-litre mHawk four-cylinder diesel, it’s been updated from 140bhp and 330Nm to 155bhp and 360Nm and can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. There is also a petrol 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine on offer that generates 140bhp/320Nm and is offered only with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The current generation Mahindra Scorpio last received fresh set of cosmetic and feature upgrades in November 2017. The vehicle featured a new imposing front grille with chrome inserts, new alloy wheels, ORVMs with turn indicators, fog lamps with chrome bezel and more. Under the hood, the new Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.5-litre (only in base S3 variant) and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine in three states of tune – 75bhp (only in S3 variant), 120bhp/280Nm (S5 and S7 variants) and 140bhp/320Nm (S7 and S11 variants). The top spec S7 variant gets a new six-speed manual transmission, while the rest come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The top-spec S11 is also available with an optional four wheel-drive system.
Tata Hexa
The Hexa has emerged as a promising replacement for the Aria and has literally won hearts instantly. Loaded with drivers aids such as ABS with EBD, ESP and up to six airbags in the top spec variant and offered with a premium interior layout, the Hexa has witnessed a lot of takers. The SUV gets a 2.2-litre turbocharged four cylinder Varicor 400 diesel engine that generates 154bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as well as a six-speed torque converter automatic.
