      Fiat unveils new 500X crossover with launch planned in 2013

      In a brand conference organised at Turin in Italy, the Italian automaker, Fiat Automobiles showcased its upcoming model in the Fiat 500 range of city cars with nomenclature, 500X. The newest member in the Fiat 500 range is expected to be offered in front and all wheel drive options.

      As per the company sources, the all new Fiat 500X will measure around 4.2 metres in length and will embody the body styling aesthetics of both a hatchback and a SUV and will be built on the same Punto derived platform utilized by the five-door mini MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), Fiat 500L.

      Fiat 500X will be loaded with a power packed 0.9 litre turbocharged two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine and a 1.3-litre Multijet turbo diesel engine. While the car’s design and engine technology showcases high level of practicality, the automaker has enhanced the focus on uplifting the exterior appeal of the car in bid to also capture the attention of the male audience, which none of the Fiat 500 range of models has ever ruled.

      The company is confident that the new Fiat 500X crossover, with its compactness and performance cues will lead the segment cut-crossing the established fierce players. The car will be make its official debut at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show, while the production is set to commence in 2013 at Fiat’s Mirafiori plant with a planned expansion intended investment of $1.24 billion.

      Fiat 500X is expected to be tagged with a starting price of £13,000 and will be rolled out initially in the U.S and European markets in 2013. The company is also planning to launch this vehicle in India by 2014.
