Fiat India will launch its updated Punto hatchback in domestic market in the first week of August. Besides bestowing various tweaks on Punto, the auto maker has also altered name of the hatch which will now be sold under the name, ‘Punto Evo’. Intricate cosmetic changes have been made to the vehicle, while mechanically nothing has changed. Fiat is expected to offer Punto Evo in four trim levels each in both petrol and diesel guise.
On the exteriors the hatchback will get restyled flared head lights, reworked front grille, revised bumpers with chrome-enclosed fog lamps, revivified bonnet, new alloy wheel patterns and redesigned tail lamps. Fiat Punto Evo will also be offered in new Gold body colour. Resemblance could be seen with refreshed Linea inside the cabin, features like dashboard and switches have been directly borrowed from Linea sedan. High end variant available with 90 Hp diesel engine will be offered with an all black interior colour scheme, however other trims will get a two-tone black and beige colour scheme.
Engine configuration remains intact, petrol variants will be made available in two engine options-a 1.2 litre petrol mill and a 1.4 litre petrol mill. Diesel range of Punto Evo will continue to be powered with Fiat’s robust 1.3 litre Multijet engine that also powers Maruti Swift diesel. Diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune-76 PS and 90 Bhp. A five-speed manual transmission will be synchronized with the all three engines. Competition is fierce in B segment in domestic markets that has hatchbacks like Maruti Swift, Volkswagen polo and Hyundai i20. Besides these cars, upcoming hatchbacks like Tata Bolt and Honda Jazz will also pose strong threat to Punto Evo. We expect Fiat to price new Punto Evo between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh.
