      Fiat Chrysler to launch nine models to strengthen its position in India

      Fiat Chrysler, the world-renowned automobile group, is planning to improve its current market share in India by introducing a number of new cars. Sources claim that Fiat Chrysler will be launching new as well as refreshed cars in the coming three years, besides expanding its sales and service network. Confirming the same, Nagesh Basavanhalli, the President and Managing Director of Fiat Chrysler India Operations, said, “As part of the expansion plan, we plan to launch nine models, a combination of refreshed and new models, in the next three years.” The nine vehicles expected to be launched in the Indian car market comprise four from Fiat, four from Chrysler and one from Abarth brands. Notably, it has already been announced that the iconic Jeep model from Chrysler is slated for a launch by the end of 2013.

      In terms of market position, the company is still trying to find its space in India as it accounts for share that is below one per cent. According to statistics, from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Indian passenger vehicle market sold around 26.8 lakh units in the year 2012-2013. Elaborating on its growth and expansion plans, Nagesh Basavanhalli further added, "We have less than one per cent currently (in India), which we plan to double each year for the next three years. Currently, we have 70 exclusive dealers across India. This number will go up to 100 by the end of this year."

      The company is working on the growth and expansion of its dealership network across the country, which is likely to benefit it in the long run. Fiat India recently opened its seventh exclusive dealership outlet in New Delhi, one of the regions considered to be important to the company's operations. "Fiat India views Delhi as a very strategic market and the inauguration of an exclusive dealership is in accordance with our strategy to capitalise on this potential," added Basavanhalli. With all these plans in place, the company is sure to capture a larger market share in India in the coming years.
