      Fiat Abarth Punto snapped ahead of launch

      The Fiat Abarth Punto which is reported to be launched on October 10, 2015, has been recently spotted at a dealership in Karnataka. The spied model was completely camouflaged, and featured the promotional #WhoAmI hashtag. Dealers have already begun accepting pre-booking orders for the vehicle at a token amount of Rs. 20,000.

      Powering the Abarth Punto will be a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine that will deliver an estimated power of 145bhp and 200Nm of torque. Whereas, it’s rival – Polo GT TSI – produces a maximum power of 105bhp. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The suspension unit and braking system, too, have also been tweaked for better performance. The 20mm lower ride height will further aid to its handling.

      Coming to the design, the Abarth Punto features bold stances, and looks sportier than the regular Punto. It gets a new front grille with contrast horizontal slats, Abarth badges and side decals, secondary air dams, rear ORVMs, 16-inches dual-tone alloys and sporty rear bumper. Inside, the car receives Abarth badge on steering wheel, new seat upholstery with contrast yellow and red stitching and machined pedals.

      As far as safety features are concerned, the Abarth Punto will come equipped with seven airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability programme (ESP), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), hill-start assist control and hydraulic brake assistance.

      Set to rival the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, the Abarth Punto will be manufactured at the company’s Rangangaon plant. This hot hatch is likely to be priced under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
