Continental, a well-established company dealing in automotive components are famous for supplying, manufacturing and developing of anti-lock braking system for bikes. It has been in this industry for the last 10 years. Finally, after extensive research, the company has introduced and enhanced the Motorcycle Integral Brake (MIB) system. A new system has been introduced by introducing a new function – the curve braking system optimised for making it more effective when the motorcycles are taking a curve.

A layman might find it difficult to comprehend the utility of this new function. However, the new curve braking system has immense usage for riders. The system strictly focuses on the ability to apply brakes for motorcycles while taking a curve. Anti-lock Braking System, till now, were applicable only on a straight line. The Optimised Curve Braking system is a mutual interaction between high-capacity sensors and numerous algorithms, which is situated in a sensor box. The sensors can identify the angle of curve for the rider and provide signals, which are based on pitch and roll rates. This eventually results in the decrease in the speed of the bike and a smooth distribution of pressure of the brake. Incidentally, the brake pressure is evenly distributed to both the rear and front wheel, thus giving additional stability to the rider.

Ronan Le Roy, the Head of Vehicle Dynamic Business Unit of Continental, said, “Thanks to optimised curve braking, braking in curves is more stable and therefore more predictable. The danger of having an accident in a curve is reduced and safety increase.” BMW S1000 XR motorcycle will be the first model to feature this system during the summers of 2015.
