      Chevrolet Sail hatchback to be introduced in July 2012

      The Indian subsidiary of General Motors, Chevrolet is planning to launch a new range of cars in the market, in the first week of March 2012. At the Bangalore facility of the company, a large number of these new cars are designed and developed. Among the new cars, Chevrolet Sail, a hatchback, will hit the list which may be launched in Indian automobile market in July 2012.

      As per rumours, Sail is likely to be introduced in both petrol and diesel variants. At present, the demand for diesel cars in India is increasing rapidly, and with this move, the company will surely grab the advantage by offering diesel variant in its Sail.

      The petrol version of Sail will be loaded with a 1.2 litre engine, whereas the diesel version will be packed with a 1.3 litre engine. As per company information, both these variants will be offered in notchback and hatchback models. The notchback offered by Chevrolet will incorporate the design, wherein to the top of the rear section, the roof drops off stridently.

      Around 2100 people are employed in the R&D and design centre of GM's Bangalore unit. Along with Sail, the company is also aiming to unveil a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) by the end of this fiscal. Moreover, Chevrolet is also set to introduce an electric car to the Indian buyers which will soon be launched after the Government plans to make the norms of EVs more limber.
