2013 has already seen a number of luxury cars being launched in India by auto makers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover and Rolls-Royce. Now it seems as if the launching spree is set to continue till the end of 2013. BMW, the Bavaria-based auto maker, according to sources, is all set to launch its sports car Z4 Roadster in India. The German car manufacturer launched the 5-Series LCI few days ago and 1-Series in the month of September. The next model expected to join this line-up is the new 2014 Z4 Roadster, which is expected to launch in November. If launched in November, this vehicle would be the third introduction in three months by BMW.

Talking about the exteriors, the Z4 Roadster is expected to get classic proportions of short overhangs complemented with low seats near the rear axle and stretched bonnet. It is also expected to get the typical kidney grille and powerful wheel arches at the rear. Reports claim that there will be plenty of space in interiors with well positioned instruments and round control elements inspired from the royal BMW Z8. This happens to be the first BMW Roadster that will come equipped with a hardtop. The USP of this hardtop is that the low-slung appearance prevails even when the top remains down. The folding of the two aluminium roof shells takes place in mere 20 seconds and implements a coupé-style silhouette. Simply put, whether the roof is kept closed or open, the driving pleasure and overall look isn't going to affect negatively.

In the international market, BMW Z4 comes in three variants, two six-cylinder 3.0-litre engines and a four-cylinder 2-litre powertrain. The four-cylinder 2.0 litre engine delivers peak power of 335.4 bhp. BMW India is expected to offer the Z4 Roadster in the sDrive35i variant fitted with the six-cylinder 3.0-litre unit that produces maximum output of 301.8 bhp. It has the ability to clock 100 kmph from scratch in a matter of 5.1 seconds. Moreover, it gets the six-speed sport automatic transmission system and has a weight of over 1500 kg. This Z4 variant owes its lightweight to the usage of composite materials like magnesium and aluminium crankcase. The lightweight camshafts come with aluminium VANOS (an automotive variable valve timing system) control unit and cylinder head cover crafted out with a special synthetic material.

The Z4 Roadster is expected to come as a complete package with an array of storage features equipped in it. Sources claim that there is space in the centre console, in the door panels, the instrument panel and glove compartment and behind the seats. Also, there is provision of additional storage in the optional package. It has standard run-flat tyres that give maximum riding pleasure and have the ability to be driven more than 250 km even after a puncture. The Z4 Roadster is implemented with high-performance braking system, dynamic stability control and airbags in case of emergencies.

BMW Z4 Roadster, as per reports, will come equipped with standard features like leatherette upholstery, an AM/FM/CD stereo system with HD Radio and AUX and USB inputs, dual zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, heated mirrors, bi-xenon headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels and power-adjustable seats. The latest version of Z4 is expected to be priced a little higher from its previous version, reaching somewhere around Rs. 70 lakh. This latest entry by BMW is going face competition from the likes of Audi TT and Porsche Boxter.
