The electric motor installed in this car has a 9 kW lithium ion battery, which consists of 96 individual cells. The boot space of the car has been reduced by almost 150 litres due to the mounted battery. The battery takes about three hours for a full charge. The vehicle is offered in three driving modes namely - eDrive, Max eDrive and Save Battery. All three modes have their own merits and can be utilized as per conditions.

According to BMW, the car takes about 6.8 seconds to reach 100 kmph from scratch and can reach a top speed to 211 kmph. The BMW X5 xDrive30d, in comparison, reaches 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 kmph. Sources suggest that the chassis of this car has been redone in order to support the hybrid configuration. Standard equipment available on this car includes self-levelling rear air suspension and adaptive damping.
