Hyundai, yesterday, launched the new Hyundai i20 Active crossover in the country. It is the fourth Hyundai to make global debut in India. Based on the Elite i20 hatchback, the i20 Active will rival against the likes of Fiat Avventura, VW Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. The crossover is priced in the range of Rs. 6.38 lakh - Rs. 8.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The i20 Crossover measures 3,995mm in length, 1,760mm in width, 1,555mm in height and a has a large wheelbase of 2,570mm. The car comes with a large ground clearance of 190mm, which is 20mm more than the hatchback sibling. The i20 Active offers 45-litres of boot space, which can be increased by folding rear seats.
The Hyundai i20 Active crossover is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The diesel version gets a 1.4-litre four-cylinder U2 CRDi engine that churns out 88.73bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 220Nm of torque at 1,500-2,750rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car via a five-speed manual gearbox. It is claimed to return an impressive 21.19kmpl of fuel economy.
The petrol version gets a 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa motor that is good for 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. This engine is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox and delivers 17.19kmpl of fuel economy. The company has improved its torque delivery of petrol model by 6 percent and 11 percent of the diesel one.
The Suspension system comprises of McPherson Strut with Coil Spring at the front and torsion beam axle with coil spring, gas type shock absorbers at the rear. The car has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels.
The Hyundai i20 Active is equipped with several safety features such as dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution system, rear defogger, smart pedal system, etc. Feature list includes multifunctional steering wheel, 2-DIN integrated music system with CD/MP3/Radio/USB/AUX-in/Bluetooth and 1GB internal memory, chilled glove-box, automatic air conditioning, rear AC, rear view camera with parking sensors, engine starter button with smart key, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, cornering lights, automatic headlights, rear wiper and washer.
