BMW will head into 2017 on a high note with a number of entirely new and updated vehicles for the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. The automaker has revealed that it will showcase the new 5 Series, Concept X2 and the updated 6 Series range at the coveted motor show.

BMW will showcase new 5 Series and Concept X2 at Detroit Auto Show

Starting off with the most important model of them all, the 5 Series is now in its seventh-generation and is eagerly anticipated in many markets including India. In this all new avatar, it also gets the 530e iPerformance – a plug-in hybrid variant which will go on sale starting March 2017. The sporty model can run purely on electric power for a certain driving range.

The premiere of the new 5 will also feature the M550i xDrive variant. Powered by a twin-turbo V8 motor, the rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system allows the vehicle to sprint from 0-100kmph in just 4 seconds. Interestingly, that’s quicker than the current gen M5 which does the same sprint in 4.4 seconds.

Next up is the updated 6 Series range which includes the Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe models. All of these now get a series of exterior and interior accents for a more personalized look. Finally, the Detroit Auto Show will also see the US debut of the Concept X2 – the new kid on the block in the compact crossover segment.
We will be covering the Detroit Auto Show to bring you all the action as it happens, so stay tuned for more on the new 5 Series and a few other India-bound models.
