Though Volkswagen has globally launched the Tiguan in many markets, it's yet to be launched in India. Its recent appearance without a disguised avatar hints that the carmaker might soon launch the SUV for the Indian market.

This is the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan that was revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and was also displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo in India. It is the same model that sports halogen headlights, DRLs, roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels and LED tail lamps. The top-of-the-line Highline variant should be equipped with these features. The Comfortline trim will then be positioned below the former and the Trendline version will be the entry-level variant of the Tiguan.

The VW Tiguan is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform and available in both petrol and diesel options in Germany. We can expect the same engine options to be offered in India, meaning the petrol version to be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol mill that produces 132 kW (177bhp) and 320Nm of torque. On the other hand, the oil-burner should be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged four-cylinder diesel motor that churns out 110 kW (148bhp) and 340Nm of torque. Transmission options might include a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

Volkswagen might be planning to launch the Tiguan for the Indian market in the New Year. This SUV will then become their first new model to be launched in India in 2017. The Tiguan's introduction will also mean Volkswagen's entry into the compact SUV segment competing with the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, if priced between Rs 28 lakh to Rs 38 lakh in India.
