Model: Concept XA Alpha
Delhi Auto Expo 2012. The company has always introduced products as per the needs of the Indian customers. Therefore, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has been the leader in the small car segment for long time. However, the growing demand of the sports utility vehicles (SUVs) in India in the recent years prompted Maruti Suzuki to bring its Concept XA Alpha.
According to the company officials, ‘X’ signifies the crossover category and ‘A’ indicates the compact segment. Likewise, ‘Alpha’ denotes the contemporary design of the model that will attract potential customers, especially youngsters.
The Maruti Suzuki Concept XA Alpha is a perfect combination of elegance and rugged look. The model has been designed in such a way that it can attract both youth as well as the seniors in the country. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki was present during the showcase of company’s new model. He commented, "The Concept XA is designed for a market of customers with a young urban lifestyle. This Concept showcases the unified R&D efforts of Suzuki and Maruti which will be a big asset for us in India in the future".
MSIL engineers have assimilated numerous safety features in its new compact SUV, namely parking sensors, 2 airbags, ABS (Anti-lock breaking system) with EBD (Electronic Break force Distribution), fog lamps and rear seat belts. As far as the comfort and convenience features are concerned, the model includes power windows, AC with climate control, central locking (remote) and rear armrest with cup holder. Sun roof, rear wiper, remote fuel filler, remote boot, rear defogger, folding rear seats and steering adjustment are some of the other features of the Concept XA Alfa.
The overall length of this model is 4000 mm with a width of around 1900 mm. In addition, the car is provided with a long wheelbase 2500 mm which provides ample space for leg room.
The Concept XA Alpha will be available in petrol as well as diesel variant. The petrol model will be equipped with the K-series engine and the diesel model will have 1.3 litre of K-Series Fiat multi-jet diesel engine. Since the car has incorporated with a performance-oriented engine, it is capable of attaining a peak speed at 180 kmph. Although the vehicle is backed by a powerful engine, it does not lag in terms of fuel efficiency. This SUV has fuel efficiency in the range of 8 kmpl to 10 kmpl.
The new SUV model by MSIL is rumoured to substitute the Gypsy and give fierce competition to other new models, namely Ford EcoSport, Premier Rio and Renault Duster.
