Audi is targeting its upcoming Q2 at buyers with bigger BMW and Merc cars who intend to downsize on their next car.

With prices that start at 22,900 Euros (Rs 17.20 lakh) for the standard version, the brand also looks forward to competing with luxury compact cars like the Mercedes GLA and the BMW 1 Series hatchback. Armed with a winning combination of a striking design, compact dimensions, and superior infotainment options, Audi added that the Q2 will attract buyers who need a compact SUV for convenience reasons, without compromising on comfort.

Audi officials also conveyed that the Q2 will not be targeted at the Mini Countryman, as buyers are too loyal to go out looking for alternatives with more practicality and space. Audi is expected to launch the Q2 SUV for Europe and China in November 2016, and the car will roll out of their Ingolstadt plant in Germany.

Bookings have already commenced in the intended markets for the standard Q2, and the Q2 Edition #1. Audi ambitiously anticipates to attract buyers by incorporating features such as wireless charging and the Audi Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster (12.3-inch screen and head-up display).

Globally, six engine options will be available and power output is expected to range from 116bhp to 190bhp. While the petrol range consists of a 1.0 TFSI three-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.4 TFSI and a 2.0 TFSI, diesel users will get a 1.6 TDI, and a 2.0 TDI (in two states of tune).

Audi is expected to get the Q2 SUV to our Indian market in the first half of 2017.
