Audi India, the German luxury car maker, has finally launched the economical version of its compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Q3, named Q3 S, in the domestic auto market. Sources close to the development process revealed that the model has been locally assembled, which helped the brand with four rings to competitively price its new Q3 S. Reportedly, the model was launched at company's newly inaugurated showroom in New Delhi, named Audi Delhi Central. Sprawling over an area of 6,315 square feet, this showroom happens to be the 3rd Audi dealership in Delhi, sporting 6-car display. Expressing his delight at the launch ceremony, the Head of Audi India, Michael Perschke was quoted as saying, “The Audi Q3 S Edition is our answer to this ever increasing demand for luxury mobility with the thrill of self-controlled driving. We are confident that the Audi Q3 S Edition will be yet another successful addition to our success story in India.”

It must be noted that as the price of new Audi Q3 has been reduced, some features in it have been kept at bay. The recently introduced model loses out daytime running lights and panoramic sunroof, which are both exclusive features of an Audi model. Along with, the xenon lights of Q3 have been replaced with conventional halogen bulbs in the new Q3 S. Coming to the safety aspects of the model, advancements like Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, cruise control, driver infotainment system and voice dialogue system for active commands have been packed within the car. Even on the front of comfort and convenience, the Q3 S does cut a little. However, features like leather-covered multi-function steering wheel, fold-out 6.5 inch media screen, power-adjustable driver seat and LED interior lighting package have been packed within the new car.

Coming to the technical specifications of the new Q3 S, the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine has been re-configured to churn out a maximum power of 140 bhp, along with a torque of up to 320 Nm as against 177 bhp of power and 380 Nm torque found in the standard model of Q3. Also, the S-tronic automatic transmission system has been replaced with the 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas Quattro four-wheel drive system with the front wheel drive layout in the new Audi Q3 S. However, with its six-speed transmission, the new Q3 S Edition happens to be a more fuel efficient model as it returns around 17.32 kmpl, as per the company officials.

Industry experts are of a view that all these changes have played a significant role in reducing the price of recently launched model. It must be noted that the Indian arm of Audi is offering a free 'Off-road Style Package' to the first 10 online buyers of the model. With the launch of a new model, Audi seems to be working towards creating an identity for Q3 as one of the most affordable luxury car models in the Indian auto market. Along with new model launches, the auto maker is planning to expand its showrooms count to 34 dealerships before the end of ongoing year.
