AMT spec comparo: Datsun redi-GO 1.0-litre vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

The Datsun Redi-GO AMT has been launched in India at Rs 3.80 lakhs (All India ex-showroom). This is the third addtion to the Redi-GO family and follows the same logical progression as its French sibling the Renault Kwid.

It has been introduced in to the A+segment of the car market and is aimed at those who want a car in the budget rung of the market but are willing to spend a little more than the price of the entry-level models. Its main rival is, of course, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT, the car that pretty much leads the segment and is the one that started it (two-pedal budget cars).


In this part of the market, the looks play a significant role and in that respect both cars do have unique designs that help them stand out. For the Alto K10, it plays on the traditional strengths of the budget Maruti hatchback. The lines are clean and simple and there are many swathes of chrome to add a premium feel to its looks. Of note is the grille, the high C-pillar and very visible shoulder line. Where the K10 is a bit traditional, the redi-GO AMT is funky thanks to the bright colour palette, high ground clearance and chunky lines on the side. An added advantage for the redi-GO AMT is that it is a top-of-the-line variant and so gets LED DRLs.

Interior and features

Given that both the cars are built to a budget, their interiors reflect a philosophy of function over form. You get a similar level of features, storage spaces and even space inside the cabin as both cars have similar measurements. The redi-GO AMT has an advantage in that its infotainment system now gets Bluetooth connectivity which the Alto K10 does not have. Its traditional versus modern once again as the Alto K10 gets beige and black cabin while the redi-GO is a full black affair.

Engine and gearbox

Both cars get a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit producing 67bhp/91Nm with power going to the front wheels via five-speed AMT. We have driven both the cars and you read about the here and here.


The redi-GO in this AMT spec is available for Rs 3.80 lakhs in the T variant and Rs 3.96 lakhs in the S variant. The Alto K10 at present is only available in the top of the line VXi (O) variant which is priced it at Rs 4.28 lakhs (ex-showroom).
