The 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible will be launched by BMW India tomorrow. This car is the soft top derivative of the Cooper hatchback and is built on a new UKL platform.

In terms of appearance, the Cooper Convertible has grown in size as compared to its predecessor. As for the dimensions, it measures 3,821mm in length, 1,727mm in width and 1,415mm in height. This is more by 98mm, 44mm and 1mm respectively and the wheelbase is also longer by 28mm. The carmaker has expanded the front track by 42mm and the rear track by 34mm. However, due to the rise in the chassis strength, the new car is heavier by 120kg.

The three-door soft top convertible's main attraction is its roof that can open and shut up in up to speeds of up to 30kmph in just 18seconds. Cosmetically, the new Cooper convertible still carries forward the retro classic stance of the Minis. It features round headlamps with LED DRLs, a signature chrome grille and chrome embellishments on the tail lamps. The cabin will be a feature-rich compartment with its interior adorned in cloth and leather combination. The car will boast of a host of passenger convenience and safety features.

For the Indian market, the new Mini Cooper Convertible will be offered in both petrol and diesel powertrains. The petrol version might be powered by the 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit that belts out 133.9bhp of power while the oil-burner might get a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel mill that pumps out 115.9bhp of power. All these engines will come mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW India will bring the Mini Cooper Convertible to India via the CBU route (Completely Built-up Unit). Its price is expected to be between Rs 35-38 lakh and will serve as a niche segment in India.
