Mercedes-Benz has released a design sketch of the 2016 S-Class Cabriolet ahead of its world premiere at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September. While the test mules of the vehicle were snapped testing with soft tops on, the official sketch comes with top down.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet takes its design inspiration from the S-Class Coupe, which was launched in India on July 30, 2015. Though, the Cabriolet has a folding fabric roof with slightly different styling. Inside, the car gets a dark blue and white leather interior, sporty seats and a flat bottomed steering wheel. The S-Class will be the first Cabriolet to feature 4-seats configuration in its league.

Though, the company hasn’t yet revealed the engine details of the vehicle. It is likely to share engine lineup and transmissions with the regular Coupe version. The top-end model will be available with two engine options – a 5.5-litre V-8, twin-turbocharged and 6.0-litre V12, Biturbo. While the former produces a maximum power of 585bhp with 900Nm of torque, the latter one is good for 621bhp and 1000Nm.

Though the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet will belong to a niche segment, it will take on the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe and Bentley Continental GTC in the international markets. Globally, the S-Class Cabriolet will be launched sometime in 2016, followed by the Indian launch. Besides this, the German automaker will also bring-in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class that has been recently imported to India for homologation purpose.
