Hyundai India has imported a single unit of the new-generation Verna into the country. The imported data on Zauba.com suggests that the company has shipped back a test mule – RBI (code-name) - after some tests in South Korea. The fifth-generation Hyundai Verna (aka the Solaris and the Accent) is likely to make its debut next year, while launch might happen in 2017.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna is expected to be powered with a new ‘GDi’ engine lineup that will also be used for the company’s future products. In fact, the existing Korean-spec model of the sedan is equipped with a 1.6-litre GDi engine that produces a maximum power of 134.08bhp and 300Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission) automatic gearbox, and claims to return fuel economy of 18.3km/l. The same transmission might be carried forward to the new-gen model.
The next-gen Verna will continue to follow the Fluidic Design v2.0 philosophy, though it will feature new exterior styling. The sedan might get new headlights and tail lamps, a wider bonnet design, front grille with chrome slats and a honeycomb mesh air dam, new alloy wheels and new ORVMs with LED turn indicators. Features like new metallic gold paint, taller rear and tail gate section and a sunroof might also be on offer. Though, it will retain the original design and stances. Interior updates might include a touchscreen infotainment system, more upright dashboard design and added rear seat legroom.
Upon its launch, the 2017 Hyundai Verna will take on the Skoda Rapid, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Honda City and Fiat Linea. It is expected to be offered within the price bracket of Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
