A Brazilian automotive website has rendered the 2016 Honda Civic sedan that will go on sale in America this year. These renderings are based on the Civic concept that was unveiled at the 2015 New York Auto Show. Just so you know, the next-generation Civic will be offered in sedan, hatchback and coupe body styles.

The next-gen Civic will be based on shortened version of the existing Accord’s platform. It will feature a modified lower fascia design, new “Flying H” grille with optional LED headlamps and revised rear end with tail lights, similar to its concept. The updated version of the sedan will be longer than the outgoing model. Though, the interior details are limited, we expect that the design and features will be carried forward from the existing model. Safety features like adaptive cruise control, multi-angle rear view mirror and lane departure warning could also be on offer.

The US-spec model of the sedan will be powered with a 1.5-litre “Earth Dreams VTEC Turbo” engine with direct injection technology and a 6-speed manual transmission. That said, a CVT (continuously variable transmission) gearbox might also be on offer. The European version of the sedan will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Powering the diesel variant will be Honda’s 1.6-litre, four-cylinder i-DTECH diesel unit. This engine might borrow a 9-speed gearbox from CR-V facelift.

Honda Cars India discontinued the Civic sedan (8th generation), due to declining demand for premium sedan segment. Meanwhile, there is no clarity whether the company will re-launch the next-generation Civic in India or not.
