German automaker BMW has just unveiled the M2 performance vehicle and sources have revealed that it could be launched in India along with international markets sometime next year. The M2 is stated to be a direct successor to the 1-series M Coupe that was quite popular overseas. Among BMW's global line-up the M division would be the smallest offering and placed below the M3/M4 siblings.

The 2016 BMW M2 would be powered by 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol N55 engine that also served the 1-series M coupé. However, being a performance oriented machine it would generate a higher power output of about 365bhp. Globally, the M2 would be offered with a choice between six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit with launch control. The vehicle would be offered in three drive modes namely – Comfort, Sport and Sport+. As per the company, the vehicle is capable of clocking a 0-100km/h in just about 4.5 seconds in manual, while the automatic reportedly does it in just about 4.2 seconds. The top speed has been limited to 250km/h.

In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,468mm in length, 1,854mm in width and 1,410mm in high. In terms of design, the front bumpers have got a sharply modified front bumper with bigger air vents, redone grill and wide wheel arches. As for the rear, it gets a prominent rear bumper with integrated spoilers and quad exhaust. The company has also claimed to achieve a 30% reduction in lift and 5% drag reduction due to a new body kit. The vehicle also gets a wheelbase of about 2,693mm which is about 117mm shorter than the M3/M4. Car fanatics can catch a glimpse of the vehicle in production version at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show.
