The compact small car Renault Kwid has won many hearts in the country. The company has already garnished over 70,000 bookings with waiting period stretching up to 10 months. For a while news had also been doing rounds that the company has been working on developing a bigger 1.0-litre for Kwid. Fresh reports have now emerged that the company may also offer ABS and Dual-Airbags on the power version.
To meet surging demand, Renault has planned on ramping up production by around 50 per cent in next 3-6 months. The current generation is powered by 800cc petrol unit mated to five speed manual transmission that generates about 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. In terms of dimensions the existing model offers 300-litre boot space and 180mm of ground clearance.
Sometime later Renault may also introduce automatic/AMT trim in both 800cc and 1.0-litre variants. More details on the 1.0-litre variant is not known for now, it is believed that could generate about 77bhp of power. If launched, it could be priced between Rs 4-5 lakh range.
